4 Years ago, I received an ecoYoga mat. In this review, I’ll take you through some of the interesting facts about the ecoYoga mat, along with my personal experience and opinions.
Four years ago, I received the ecoYoga mat in exchange for a review for another blog I used to own. Here I am, 4 years later, providing an update on the ecoYoga mat.

An Earth Conscious Choice
Traditional yoga mats are made of PCV, a plastic that stays around relatively forever. The ecoYoga mat – an earth-conscious choice – is constructed of natural rubber and jute. It is even biodegradable. So, 10 years from now, you’ll be able to throw it in your compost bin and know that it will return to nature.
Look & Feel
Let’s get to the fluffy stuff first, colour. I LOVE the array of colours that the mats come in, all inspired by nature. You can see the colours on the EcoYoga mat website. They come in Coral Red, Ash Grey, Lichen Green, Natural, and my favourite and colour of choice, Deep Lavender. The colours themselves give you a calm and peaceful feeling don’t you think?
The mats also come in two different lengths, 72 inches and 84 inches. My mat is a 72-inch mat. My husband, who is just over 6 feet himself, and I both think it’s a suitable length. It’s actually several inches longer than the PVC mat we’ve been sharing for years.
Comparing it to our old PVC yoga mat, I can honestly say that I love the feel of the mat. The jute weave gives this mat a nice grip. The stippled side goes down and also offers better slip resistance than our old mat.
One thing to consider is that the ecoYoga mat is made of natural rubber and will give off that rubbery smell that transfers to your hands and lingers with you for a while. The smell does wear off over time though!
Lifespan
The ecoYoga mat is said to last from 2 to 10 years depending on how often you use it, and how well you care for it. I’ve had my ecoYoga mat for 4 years and it’s still used all the time. It has some wear and tear, but it still has a log of life left to it.
The lifespan and caring for the ecoYoga mat go hand in hand, so this leads to my next point, how to properly take care of the mat.
Caring For The Mat
Properly caring for the ecoYoga mat will prolong its lifespan and keep up its great grip. You can wipe it down with water and a touch of household vinegar. Alternatively, you can also machine wash it according to the instruction sheet, however, it will need to hang dry.
Price Point
The thing about sustainable products is usually the price tag attached to them. The ecoYoga mat is no different. The 72-inch mat retails for $108.00 CAN, while the 84-inch mat is currently sold out.
I have to admit that I find the price tag high, however, that doesn’t surprise me since it’s a high-quality product made with biodegradable plant materials. My values tell me to pick the ethical option, however, the pocketbook doesn’t always agree. It’s up to the individuals to weigh the value of an earth-conscious choice over its price tag.
The Yoga Mat The Whole Family Loves
My husband and I are very satisfied with ecoYoga mat. Over the years this yoga mat has seen a lot of love since it’s longer and has better grip than our other mat (that’s the truest testament right?).
The price was definitely the only negative aspect of this mat. We can feel good that when we are done with it, it’s going to get composted and decompose instead of sitting in a landfill years after we are gone.
